Boards IQ Workshop - Peniche, 21.12.2025
Boards IQ Workshop - Peniche, 21.12.2025
Most surfers are riding the wrong board — too small, too advanced, too much volume, too little rocker, rails that don’t match their technique… and it slows their progression massively. The Boards IQ Workshop is a one-day, in-person training experience in Peniche designed to finally give you clarity about what you should be riding and why.
Gui Fonseca will break down board design in a practical, no-BS way so you can understand how outline, volume, rails, rocker, and materials affect your surfing. This workshop is for surfers who want to level up, avoid common mistakes, and choose boards that genuinely match their body type, technical level, and the waves they surf most.
You’ll walk away knowing exactly which board will help you progress faster — not because someone in a surf shop said so, but because you finally understand how your equipment works and how to match it to your surfing.
Optional Add-On:
Join a surf session with Gui or bring surf clips for personalised feedback so he can evaluate your level and recommend a truly customised board setup.

How Board Design Affects Your Surfing
Learn the practical impact of rocker, rails, outline, and foam on your speed, control, stability, paddling, and ability to engage in turns. You’ll finally understand why certain boards feel fast, slow, stiff, or unstable — and how to fix it.
-
How to Personalise Your Board Choice
Every surfer rides differently. Gui will show you how your body type, technique, strengths, and wave conditions influence the board you should ride. This includes personalised advice, Q&A, and tailored board recommendations.
-
How to Choose Your Next Board With Confidence
Stop guessing in the surf shop. You’ll leave knowing exactly what board will help you progress faster — including ideal dimensions, rocker, volume, and rail type. Bring your clips or join the surf session to get the most accurate evaluation of your surfing.
Who is this for?
Intermediate surfers
Especially those who may have downsized too early or are unsure if their current board matches their level. Many intermediates slow down their progression because they’re riding surfboards that are too advanced, too small, or simply not designed for what they need right now.
Lower-intermediate surfers
Who want to avoid the classic mistake of switching boards before they have the skills to handle them. Choosing the wrong board too soon can set your progress back by months. This workshop gives you clarity before you invest in a new shape.
Advanced surfers
Even skilled surfers get held back by equipment that doesn’t match their technique. Gui explains that many advanced surfers use boards that limit their ability to engage the rail or generate speed. The right board can open new performance levels instantly.
Surfers who want personalised guidance
If you’ve ever wondered:
- “Is this the right board for me?”
- “Should I go smaller?”
- “Do I need more volume?”
- “Why does my board feel slow / unstable / stuck?”
This workshop gives you the precise answers — based on your level, your waves, and your goals.
Surfers wanting help choosing their next board
Gui created this workshop because he constantly gets asked to go to surf shops with people, help them buy boards, or evaluate their equipment in the water. This is your chance to have those questions answered with a structured, professional approach.

Why this workshop was created?
Everyday people keep asking Gui the same questions, such as:
"Am I on the right board?"
"Should I change size"
"Is this board good for my level?"
"Can you come with me to the surf shop?"
This is the reason the workshop was built , to help surfers stop guessing and start progressing with the right equipment.
